CHARRIN
Charrin is a commune closely linked to the Loire, which was the main commercial artery of the region until the 19th century. As early as the 11th century, a feudal castle stood on a hill above the river. The old port of "La Crevée" bears witness to the importance of the river economy in the past. A dyke was built in the 18th century to facilitate navigation and protect farmland from flooding by the Loire. Above the nave, the church itself features a 1705 vault in the shape of an inverted ship's hull, using the technique of the carpenters of the Loire navy. In the chancel of this 11th-century Romanesque church, traces of late medieval wall paintings have been unearthed. Eurovélo 6, the European cycle route linking the Atlantic to the Black Sea, passes through Charrin. The village has a cycle relay with all the facilities you need to stop off for a few hours or camp overnight.
